1. SCOPE OF SERVICE

1.1 The Steam Shop shall provide laundry, dry cleaning, and ironing services to: (a) customers via direct app bookings and online orders; and (b) customers who physically visit and place an order in person at The Steam Shop.

1.2 By placing an order with The Steam Shop, you agree to these Terms & Conditions. These terms apply to all services, including orders placed in store or online for laundry, dry cleaning, ironing, and all collection/delivery services.

2. SERVICE OPERATION & AVAILABILITY

2.1 The Steam Shop operates Tuesday to Sunday and is closed Mondays for maintenance and staff rest. Additional downtime may occur due to equipment servicing, breakdowns, supply shortages, or other operational constraints. The Steam Shop will give reasonable notice to customers where possible.

2.2 The Steam Shop shall not be required to operate or provide any pickup, delivery, or cleaning services on public holidays, including but not limited to Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Year’s Day, Easter Sunday, and any statutory holidays observed in Scotland.

2.3 Where a public holiday affects the normal service schedule, pickup and delivery times shall automatically roll forward to the next available day.

2.4 No compensation shall be payable for delays or interruptions described in clause 2.

2.5 The Steam Shop shall not be liable for delay or failure to perform obligations due to events beyond reasonable control, including but not limited to industrial action, illness, transport disruption, fire, flood, utilities failure, government action, pandemic, or natural disaster.

3. PICKUP, DELIVERY, HANDLING RESPONSIBILITIES & RISK TRANSFER

3.1 Pickup and delivery shall occur according to mutually agreed time slots, which are indicative only and not guaranteed.

3.2 Risk of loss or damage to items transfers to The Steam Shop only upon physical receipt at its premises and reverts to the customer upon delivery, as evidenced by a digital timestamp, delivery photo, or signed receipt.

3.3 The Steam Shop shall not be liable for items lost or damaged in transit prior to receipt or after delivery.

3.4 The Steam Shop shall not be liable for any loss, damage, odour, or contamination occurring after delivery to the customer, arising from inadequate storage or handling practices.

4. TURNAROUND TIMES

4.1 Standard turnaround: 24 hours for laundry and 48 hours for dry cleaning and ironing. Turnaround times are for guidance purposes only and do not constitute a binding contractual commitment.

4.2 Same-day (“express”) service may be available for orders placed online, subject to operational capacity and driver availability. Express services are not automatically bookable and must be specifically requested at the time of the order. Acceptance of any express order — including its feasibility, timing, and applicable surcharge — shall be entirely at The Steam Shop’s discretion.

4.3 Turnaround times are measured in working days and are indicative only. The Steam Shop shall not be liable for consequential, indirect, or reputational loss arising from delay.

5. CARE OF GARMENTS

5.1 The Steam Shop agrees to exercise the utmost care in cleaning and processing all garments and articles entrusted by customers.

5.2 The Steam Shop shall not be held liable for: (a) Inherent weaknesses or defects in materials that are not readily apparent prior to processing. (b) Fabrics that may shrink, stretch, lose colour, or change texture, including but not limited to silks, satins, leathers, vinyls, polyurethanes, double-faced fabrics, sequins, beads, buttons, trimmings, and buckles. (c) Damage caused by accessories, ornaments, or non-removable buttons.

5.3 In the absence of care labels, or where care labels are missing, unclear, contradictory, or indicate "spot clean only," cleaning shall be performed entirely at the customer’s risk. The Steam Shop shall not be liable for damage, shrinkage, or colour loss arising from the absence or ambiguity of care instructions.

5.4 The Steam Shop reserves the right to refuse any item deemed unsuitable for its cleaning processes.

6. STAIN REMOVAL

6.1 The Steam Shop will make reasonable efforts to remove stains from garments. However, complete removal cannot be guaranteed.

6.2 Some stains may be permanent or may reappear after cleaning due to oxidation or prior treatment. Stain removal is performed at the Customer’s risk.

7. COUNT AND INSPECTION

7.1 All garments and items are counted and inspected by The Steam Shop at the time of processing.

7.2 If the customer provides a written list of items, The Steam Shop’s count will be compared against the list, and any discrepancies must be reported within forty-eight (48) hours of collection or delivery.

7.3 In the absence of a written list provided by the Customer, The Steam Shop’s count shall be deemed accurate and binding.

7.4 While garments are inspected prior to cleaning, certain pre-existing conditions—including but not limited to loose seams, thinning fabric, or missing buttons—may not be visible due to lighting or fabric texture. The Steam Shop shall not be liable for deterioration or damage resulting from standard cleaning or pressing processes.

8. LIABILITY FOR LOSS OR DAMAGE

8.1 The Steam Shop’s total aggregate liability for any claim (whether in contract, tort, negligence, or otherwise) shall not exceed the lesser of: (a) the fair market value of the item; or (b) ten (10) times the standard cleaning charge for that item, excluding any express, surcharge, or supplementary fees applied to expedite service.

8.2 The Steam Shop shall not be liable for: (a) Pre-existing damage or wear; (b) Items left in pockets or bags, including but not limited to pens, coins, or valuables; (c) Colour loss, shrinkage, or other changes resulting from normal cleaning processes.

8.3 The Steam Shop shall not be liable for: inherent or age‑related defects; colour loss or shrinkage; weak fabrics; accessories, beads, sequins, or trimmings; items without care labels; or damage arising from guest or Hotel instructions or misuse.

8.4 Any claims concerning an order must be submitted in writing within forty eight (48) hours of delivery and supported by evidence. Disputed items must be returned unwashed and unworn for inspection prior to resolution.

8.5 Under no circumstances shall The Steam Shop be liable for indirect, consequential, or incidental losses, including but not limited to emotional distress, loss of use, or loss of profit.

9. UNCOLLECTED ITEMS

9.1 Items not collected within ninety (90) days of completion may be donated or recycled following reasonable attempts to contact the customer.

9.2 The handling of unclaimed items shall comply with applicable UK regulations.

10. PRICING & AMENDMENTS

10.1 Prices are as listed on The Steam Shop’s dedicated “Pricing” page and are subject to change without prior notice.

10.2 Pricing errors or technical inaccuracies on any other portal, printed, or physical material shall not bind The Steam Shop.

10.3 Express surcharges are determined solely by The Steam Shop and may be amended at any time without prior notice.

11. PAYMENT COLLECTION, NON‑PAYMENT & UNCLAIMED ITEMS

11.1 All online bookings require valid card details at the time of booking. Customer cards are automatically charged upon completion of cleaning and prior to delivery.

11.2 All payments for pickup and delivery must be made exclusively via The Steam Shop’s secure online booking and payment portal. Cash payments will not be accepted by drivers under any circumstances. In the event a payment fails or is declined, The Steam Shop may withhold release of items until full payment is received.

11.3 Items uncollected after ninety (90) days may be donated or disposed of. The Steam Shop’s records and photographs are conclusive evidence of the condition upon receipt.

12. REFUNDS AND COMPLAINTS

12.1 If the Customer is dissatisfied with the service provided, they must notify The Steam Shop within forty-eight (48) hours of collection or delivery.

12.2 The Steam Shop will inspect the item and, if appropriate, re-clean it at no additional charge.

12.3 Refunds shall only be issued where the garment cannot be satisfactorily rectified and where The Steam Shop is found to be at fault.

13. RIGHT TO REFUSE

13.1 The Steam Shop reserves the right to refuse service for any item that is deemed unsafe to handle, poses a health hazard, or is unsuitable for cleaning.

13.2 The Steam Shop further reserves the right to refuse service to any individual displaying abusive or unreasonable behaviour towards staff or customers.

14. DATA PROTECTION

14.1 The Steam Shop shall collect and process only the personal data necessary to fulfil the Customer's order and manage their account.

14.2 All personal data shall be handled securely and in accordance with the UK Data Protection Act 2018 and The Steam Shop’s Privacy Policy, available at https://thesteamshop.uk/privacy-policy.

15. GOVERNING LAW

15.1 This terms and conditions constitutes the entire agreement between The Steam Shop and the customer.

15.2 If any provision of this Agreement is found to be invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions shall continue in full force and effect.

15.3 This Agreement shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of Scotland. Any disputes arising under or in connection with this Agreement shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the Scottish courts.
